Colorado mountains can be breathtaking any time of the year, but especially in the fall when the aspens punch yellow through the evergreens.

Snowmen are Large
We build our snowmen large in these parts. There is a lot of snow to go around.
Fall in Durango
Fall is the time for pumpkins, costumes, and riding the Pumpkin Patch express to Hermosa Valley.
Durango Mountain Resort
Known now as DMR, this is what we all used to call Purgatory.
Ice Lakes
A 7-10 mile hike to the Ice Lakes is a long but good hike. Great for tiring out dogs and little boys. An icy dip in the lake at the top is a real treat. Leaves just north of Silverton.
Handies Climb
Handies Peak, (elevation 14,058 ft) is a summit in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The mountain is approximately 11.5 miles northeast of Silverton.
The approach from Silverton requires a 4WD vehicle and 4WD driving.
Haviland Lake Hiking
Haviland Lake is a nice place to fish or picnic. For those with bushwhacking tendencies, a 2 mile hike around the lake will make you hungry for lunch.
Almost directly across the lake from the picnic area, you will have to climb to the top of the ridge and then descend next to a cattle fence. Finding the ridge is the hardest part of the climb.
